An expression is a mathematical phrase that combines numbers, variables, and operations without an equal sign. Expressions can be simplified but not solved unless they are part of an equation. The topic of Expressions is split into three topic. 

These topics are:

• Rational Numbers (RNE1)

• Components of an Expression (CPE1)

• Context of Expressions (CTE1, CTE2, & CTE3)

By the end of this unit students will be able to say:

• I Can... Explain the properties of Rational Numbers.

• I Can... Identify: Terms, Coefficients, & Variables in an algebraic expression.

• I Can... Write algebraic expressions from words and vice versa.

• I Can... Convert units.

• I Can... Interpret expressions.

• I Can... Identify the independent and dependent variables in an expression.
